Step 1: Start With Your Dream Guest List
Before you trim or panic, brain dump every name you’d love to invite. This allows you to get the big picture and will prompt you towards what size and style of wedding you’ll wish to have.

Include:
- Family (close and extended)
- Friends (current and long-term)
- Coworkers, mentors, church/family friends
- Your partner’s full list too

I started with 186 names — way more than our venue could fit. But it was the first step in seeing the full picture.

Step 3: Consider Your Budget & Venue Capacity
Now reality kicks in — how many people can you realistically invite?
- What’s your venue’s maximum capacity?
- How many guests can your budget actually handle?
- Don’t forget vendor meals (ie: your photographer, DJ, etc)!
- Allocate how many A’s, B’s, and C’s can actually be invited.
Regardless, we had a 150-person venue and 186 people on our list. Prioritizing was no longer optional — it was necessary. Also a rule of thumb for wedding guest list planning to keep in mind: only 75–85% of invited guests usually attend.
